Barcelona player ratings: Iniesta and Pique rise to the occasion

Barcelona player ratings: Iniesta and Pique rise to the occasion

TER STEGEN (10): Has ended the season with an impeccable performance. Made a great save from an Escudero cross and another from a Banega free-kick. Showed good anticipation and was good on the ball.

ALVES (8): Was disconnected at the beginning of the game, making errors and struggling to combine with Messi. Had a good effort from distance, though. Grew in the second half against the avalanche thrown at Barça by Sevilla and was much better on the ball and going forward.

PIQUE (10): Saved the team in the second half as Sevilla threw everything forward. Aware of the movements of Gameiro, he made several vital blocks and interceptions. Headed a Raktic corner just over and was denied by Rico after Alba had made it 1-0. An enormous performance.

MASCHERANO (7): Sent off for brining down Gameiro. Until then, though, the 35th minute, he was playing very well, always providing answers in defence.

ALBA (8): Was actually having a discrete evening, without a great deal of participation in attack, until his goal. He got on to Messi’s pass in the 97th minute and put the ball in the net to seal the trophy and the double.

SERGIO BUSQUETS (8): A tough night for Busquets as Barça played with 10 men for the majority of the game. He had to work harder than normal and cover even more ground. Made some decisive blocks and interceptions as Barcelona contended with Sevilla.

INIESTA (10): The player of the final. A spectacular performance, above all when the team seemed to be out of energy. Created a great chance for Suarez early on, before growing into the game in the second half. A genius in pure form. A magician on the ball. He deserved a game like this to say goodbye to the season.

RAKITIC (8): Sacrificed for the team. Was playing well, but was taken off at half time due to the sending off of Mascherano.

MESSI (10): Once more provided phenomenal, decisive passes to help Barcelona win the game, first to Alba and then to Neymar. Tried to score from a corner, too, but Rico produced a save to deny him. Sevilla’s players tried to stop him with kicks and he received a blow to the head, needing assistance, but he recovered to lead Barça home. A crack.

SUAREZ (6): Really bad luck for the Uruguayan, who had to be taken off with an injury in the 55th minute. Until then he hadn’t done too much. Had only had one chance and he missed it.

NEYMAR (8): Lacked a little bit in the first half, but that was to the credit of Sevilla’s Mariano. Grew in the second period after Mariano went off, though, provoking the red card for Ever Banega. Began to play as he does when he’s at his best in the latter stages. Killed the game off late on with the second goal.

SUBSTITUTES

MATHIEU (10): Came on at half-time and was excellent alongside Pique.

RAFINHA (7): Replaced the injured Suarez. Added more balance to the side, helping out in midfield.

SERGI ROBERTO (6): Given a few minutes for the exhausted Alba at the very end of extra-time.
