Messi was obviously the best with 25 goals and 21 assists

La Liga 19-20 is over. After two titles in a row, Barca could’t make it three. Ernesto Valverde took charge of the first half of the season, Quique Setien the second.

A total of 28 players featured for them, with Leo Messi clearly the best on show - 25 goals and 21 assists. Ansu Fati and Riqui Puig from the youth team were impressive additions.

Barca started badly with a 1-0 defeat by Athletic Bilbao, but turned things around to lead the league when Valverde was sacked. However they ended up seven points behind Madrid, letting the league slip.

RATINGS

Messi 7 - Leader, top scorer and assister, kept the fight until the end but can’t do it all himself.

Arturo Vidal 6 - Committed, gave it all, and scored a few goals too.

Martin Braithwaite 5 - Brought intensity and enthusiasm but didn’t get a lot of chances.

Clement Lenglet 5 - A clear starter, a defender for years to come.

Jordi Alba 5 - Five assists, good pace up the left.

Nelson Semedo 5 - Hit and miss, especially in defence, opens up the pitch in attack.

Carlos Perez 5 - Good breakthrough but surprisingly went to Roma.

Ivan Rakitic 4 - Was not the determining player he has been previously.

Junior Firpo 4 - Not real competition for Jordi Alba.

Arthur 3 - Now belongs to Juve, never made the difference.

Samuel Umtiti 3 - Still hampered by injuries, far from his best.

Ousmane Dembele n/a - Another victim of injuries.

Carles Alena n/a - Played out on loan at Betis where he was good.

Rafinha n/a - Only played three weeks before going to Celta.

Todibo n/a - Never in Valverde’s plans, on the market.

Wague n/a - Went off to Nice, just playing one game.

Collado n/a - Five mins as a sub. No chances really.
