The duo are out of contract in the summer of 2023 so need to sign on again

Ronald Araujo and Gavi are both starters at Barcelona. They are key, and admired by other European clubs, but at Barcelona they are calm the they will both renew.

The Catalans have been negotiating with them and the negotiations are advanced. The Urugyayan defender needs more work because there are siren songs from the Premier League - Chelsea, Man United - that oblige Barcelona to increase their offer.

Bit by bit the sides, which were far apart at first, are drawing closer together.

Araujo has three and a half years at Barcelona and has wanted to succeed here since his debut on October 2019 against Sevilla. He’s played 63 games and has become a Uruguayan international.

He signed his first contract on August 29, 2018, for five years - until 2023, with a 100m release clause that rose to 200m when he ascended to the first team.

In Gavi’s case, negotiations are even further down the line. The Andalusian midfielder has wanted to succeed here since he was 11, playing in Alevin A.

He signed a B team contract in September 2020, until June 2023, with a release clause of 50m euros. He has agreed with Barcelona a renewal bonus of around 2 million euros.

The club believe he deserves an important raise, having participated in 26 of the 31 games this season, he’ll have a 100,000 a week salary and from next season will be part of the professional squad.

Araujo and Gavi have assured the coach of their will to stay and Xavi considered them key to the project he is designing.

Barcelona want to tie them down until June 2027. Araujo and Gavi, 22 and 17 respectively, have great potential and are fully adapted to the Barcelona style.
