It's not been easy for Antoine Griezmann at Barcelona. He struggled to adapt but he looked to have found his place with the arrival of Ronald Koeman. The Dutch coach backed him, although he's left him on the bench in the last two away games.
Griezmann's situation is not the best, therefore, but Barça still have faith in him. Sources at the club completely deny that he's on the transfer market and believe he can turn things around and improve in the decisive phase of the season.
Koeman praised Griezmann when he took over at Barça. He saw him as one of the leaders and told him as much. He has tried him in different positions but he hasn't taken off yet. Koeman did not like his comments with the French national team about playing where he plays best but that has nothing to do with why he's been dropped in recent games.
It's simply the fact Koeman wants to play with Messi behind a pure No.9, along with Pedri and a winger to open the pitch.
Given that, and with Koeman wanting a new forward, Griezmann could find it difficult, but Barça insist there's no chance he leaves in January.
They believe he knows what he has to do and will win his place back in the side as one of the best players in the world.
We will have to see how his performances evolve, but it's clear Griezmann has to step up, while Koeman, must also find the best way to accommodate him.
If things don't change, the new president, board of directors and sporting director may have to take a more difficult decision in the summer.
And it won't be easy because they invested over 100 million euros in Griezmann and it's not easy to sell at the moment due to the coronavirus pandemic.
No one wants it to end that way but the new president will have to tackle that issue if performances don't improve. And the club's salary limit is also a consideration -- Barça need to find ways to balance the books.
