Dani Olmo has been linked to Barcelona for quite some time. The youngster from Barca’s academy is a target for the club and has been for many years. His performances with RB Leipzig and Spain have made him even more desired.
The Catalans have kept the situation under control. They have watched him live many times and have kept contact with his people to know what they are thinking about his situation. Dani left Barca in 2014 to sign for Zagreb and came to Leipzig last summer.
Many footballers leave Barca to join big European sides, however Dani has looked for clubs where he can grow. He’s well advised by his father Miquel, a former coach of Sabadell among other sides and someone who knows the football world well.
First in Croatia and now in Germany he’s progressed constantly. Not just for his goals, and it’s clear he’s not a No 9, but for what he brings to the teams where he plays. And that is seen in the Spanish national team too.
“You can tell you come from Barca,” Luis Enrique told him in a Spain training session. Dani was then in the U21s but with other team-mates that day he stepped up to train with the first team. Lucho has backed Olmo and he’s now a Spain regular.
That has contributed too, to a footballer whose stock is rising.
Various Barcelona presidential pre-candidates got in touch with Olmo’s people and Josep Maria Bartomeu’s reign also had serious contact with them, even if a move did not transpire.
With Joan Laporta now president, Olmo is a name back on the list. Barcelona know they need some good new players and Olmo fits the bill.
