Barcelona make move for Fabio Blanco, Valencia's 'New Ferran Torres'

The winger is out of contract in the summer and can join for no fee

FC Barcelona aren't wasting any time. The new board is still catching up with everything at the club but the planning for next season cannot wait.

Other clubs have been preparing for months while Barça have been paralysed due to the institutional situation. Now with a president in charge, that can change.

Aside from the names that have been linked so far (Eric Garcia, Depay, Wijnaldum...), Mateu Alemany, the new director of football at the club, has appealed for Joan Laporta to make what he considers a key and strategic signing.

The player in question is Fabio Blanco, a 17-year-old winger who plays for Valencia and is out of contract on June 30. The 'New Ferran Torres' has half of Europe chasing him but Barça are confident they can sign him.

Alemany has Laporta's complete confidence and it's been decided that they will move for Blanco in the coming weeks. Alemany knows there are other issues to deal with, but he knows the potential Blanco possesses and considered it a priority.

Barca's financial reality obliges them to look for raw diamonds and, buoyed by the success of Pedri, are targetting young players. The fact Blanco's out of contract is a plus.

He currently plays for Valencia's U19 team and Spain's youth teams. Initial contact has led to cause for optimism but there's nothing closed.
