Barcelona looking for Umtiti formula for Jordi Alba
The Barcelona left back has barely played for the past few months
Barça will address the future of Jordi Alba in the coming weeks assuming that it is a delicate issue for a player who has won everything in a successful era. The Blaugrana want to reduce the player's salary and would open the door to a release, although they are also willing to study the 'Umtiti formula' by renewing him for one more year to spread his salary over more seasons and thus help reduce the salary limit for the next season.
Alba's sporting situation is at its most delicate moment of his Barça career. The left-back had already assumed that he has lost his role as a starting player to Alex Balde, the club's big bet for that side of the pitch, but now he has been completely ostracized. Alba has not played since February 26th, coinciding with the defeat against Almeria, although the losses in defense may give him a chance from now on if Marcos Alonso has to continue playing at center back. In any case, Barça is clear that he is not going to be a fundamental player for the future and he has one year left on his contract with a very high salary due to having deferred amounts.
The blaugrana already tried his exit in the last summer market accepting an offer from Inter Milan to leave on loan with an option to buy. Alba refused to leave and in the first part of the season was getting minutes. In fact he has played 10 league games as a starter although his participation has gone from more to less. The club's idea is to save his salary and will seek to reach an agreement with the player.
The club's idea is to give him the freedom to listen to offers, but Jordi Alba remains firm in his idea of continuing at Camp Nou, where he sees himself capable of redirecting the situation despite the fact that next season he could start as a third full-back. In the event that there is no possibility of departure, the club will ask for a substantial salary reduction or, at least, to renew the salary to be received in one year in several seasons. Umtiti accepted it in his renewal until 2026 and that, in the end, also made it possible for him to leave the club. We will have to see if there is an agreement because for Barça it is essential to reduce the wage bill after June 30.
