The defender produced a fine performance against Bulgaria

Deschamps chose him over Kurzawa with Mendy out injured

Lucas Digne is not having the best time at Barcelona. He joined last summer to provide competition for Jordi Alba at left-back, but he has not been given regular minutes by either Luis Enrique or Ernesto Valverde. This season he has played just 105 minutes across three games and it seems he will not feature prominently under Valverde.

However, he is in France coach Didier Deschamps' plans. The French boss is ready to give the Barça defender minutes and chances. With Manchester City's Mendy injured for a long time and with Kurzawa criticised, Deschamps gave the left-back role to Digne.

And as France beat Bulgaria 1-0, Digne produced a fine performance and showed that he is a player who can rival Alba for the left-back spot in the Barça team. Remember that he did get a lot of minutes under Luis Enrique at points at the beginning of last season.

At the end of the Bulgaria game, Digne was praised in France and it was suggested that he could be the man to take the left-back slot for the time being, ahead of Kurzawa, who has not convinced.
