The Blaugrana want to bring in the Dutch defender who impressed this season

Barcelona are still hopeful of signing Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt and aren’t looking elsewhere for a centre-back.

The Catalans and the defender are far apart economically, but they take confidence from the fact that nobody has signed anything. The player’s people are talking to various clubs. Manchester United are ready to pull out of negotiations if they don’t get a yes by the end of next week.

Barca have told De Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola that they will not raise their contract offer which they made a month ago. The club don’t want to get involved in an auction. They tried to convince the player that his signing is strategic and that he will become one of the best in the world along with his friend Frenkie de Jong.

The latest club to come forward and an offer is PSG, with numbers which will double what Barca are offering. However the Blagurana are hopeful De Ligt will prioritise his sporting career over his wallet.

What’s true is that Barca aren’t going to the market to make big efforts to sign a different centre-back. De Ligt is an opportunity and or that they made a special offer.

If he doesn’t sign, they’ll stick with what they have and give Jean-Clair Todibo more of a chance.
