There’s not been a debate about it within the club for weeks. Barcelona have absolute confidence in Ronald Koeman and there is a great communion between coach and the sporting direction about getting through a transfer market with some very complicated conditions.
Barcelona think Koeman is the ideal coach for this season and hope he can be successful in charge of a project aiming for a strong future, where economically things can start looking a bit more optimistic.
There was a lot of debate over whether Koeman should stay or not at the end of last season. President Joan Laporta was not sure. There was a period of reflection. But in the end Rafa Yuste, Mateu Alemany and Ramon Planes backed him. They thought he was the best option to stay, a club legend who was willing to take on the role without any big bucks signings and using La Masia talents.
The coach worked with them in the summer, aware of all movements. Barca offered him a renewal, subject to various objectives. Some have taken that as a lack of confidence in him, but the reality is different. The idea is that he will stay another year after this one at least. Barca know it could be a tough season with no Messi and few signings, but they hope the youngsters can keep growing under Koeman.
