They will not bring forward the defender's arrival to January despite defensive problems

The coaches think Mina will need an adaptation period so will not rush the move through

Barcelona are not thinking about bringing forward Yerry Mina's arrival to the January window. He is currently expected to join after the Russia World Cup next summer from Palmeiras. The Blaugrana staff think he will need an adaptation period and for that they would prefer him to come during the summer, to have pre-season under his belt so they can watch him close up and decide if he should play in the squad or be loaned.

The Blaugrana think their 9m investment is a good idea, with the player followed a lot in England and Italy, and also because of his style of play. He is impressive physically and in the air.

RISK

Barcelona's coaches think bringing the Colombian into the squad in January is a risk because centre-backs need time to adapt and bringing the ball out from the back can be tricky in the Barcelona way.

Yerry Mina reappeared a month ago after missing three months with injury which required surgery on his foot after a fracture. He is a fixture in the Colombian national team and will appear in Russia if nothing else untoward happens.
