The right-back, at the World Cup with the USA, is currently on loan at Milan
Barcelona have already made the decision not to take Sergiño Dest back once his loan to Milan ends at the end of the season.
Barça and Milan reached an agreement for the loan of the footballer for the 2022-23 season. The agreement established a purchase option worth around €20m next summer.
So far, Dest has not had much participation in Stefano Pioli's Milan side: he has only played eight games (four in the Champions League and four in Serie A). He has not scored any goals or given any assists. He has accumulated only 339 minutes.
He has started two games and came off the bench six times. In another five matches, he was a substitute and in three he did not play due to injury.
Dest will be at the Qatar World Cup after he was included in the 26-man squad for the United States. On paper, after his disappointing season with Milan, he may lose his place in the XI, though, although he's always been a regular for the USMNT.
Dest, who was born in the Netherlands but with American nationality, signed for Barça in the 2020-21 season from Ajax for €21m plus another €5m depending on variables.
The right-back, who signed for five seasons and appeared in 72 games with the Barcelona first team, played in various positions: as a right and left full-back and, also, as a winger on both sides.
In the 72 games he played, Dest scored three goals and dished out four assists. Wearing the FC Barcelona shirt, he was won the Copa del Rey 2020-21, with Ronald Koeman on the bench.
