Barcelona goalkeeper Iñaki Peña cannot play in the Copa del Rey
Peña has a B team registration and will turn 24 this year so is ineligible
Xavi Hernández will not be able to count on Iñaki Peña for the Copa del Rey duel against InterCity. According to 'Tot Costa', the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has contacted FC Barcelona to inform them that the goalkeeper will not be able to play on Wednesday because the competition does not allow the presence of players with a B-team registration over 23 years of age.
Peña is still 23, but the year has started in which he will turn 24. The player's agents are finishing closing a contract renewal with Barça to seal his Camp Nou future, but an agreement has not yet been reached to make it official and for the stopper to become contractually a first-team player.
At the moment, Peña continues to play with the first team but does so with a registration for the B team. If there is no renewal and a contractual rise to the first team, Peña will not be able to play in the Copa del Rey with Barça. In theory, he was set to be the goalkeeper in the Copa.
