The defender is in dispute over the way he left a previous home

Samuel Umtiti believes he's the victim of extortion: the Barcelona defender has taken responsibility for the damage left at his previous home, worth around €12,000 according to a third party.

The owner of the house and the France international had agreed that €12,000 was fine but then there was a twist. According to sources close to the player, the owner then demanded another €168,000 once he found out Umtiti was a Barça player.

Umtiti feels he's the victim of extortion because he is a professional footballer. Therefore, he has refused to pay the €168,000 and left the issue in the hands of the courts.

A judge will rule over the case on Thursday morning, which is the same day that Barça must travel to Bilbao for their Copa del Rey quarterfinal against Athletic Club.

Umtiti must attend court so, in principle, will not be able to travel to Bilbao with his teammates. However, he has assured his teammates he will be there for the game.

He plans to travel to the north of Spain separately to make himself available for coach Quique Setien.
