Barcelona could make some money with Memphis Depay this summer

The Catalans signed the Dutch striker on a two year deal but he's not getting many minutes

Memphis Depay arrived last summer from Olympique Lyon without any transfer cost. He was a demand from Ronald Koeman, who got what he wanted, but then the coach was fired. Memphis has been out for a while with injury but is still Barcelona’s top scorer on 10 goals.

His commitment has been complete from the start and even though there are new signings that make it hard for him to get back into the team, he is still dedicated. He’s scored two goals in the few minutes he’s had.

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal has noticed and called him up for t international duty. THat’s not a small thing, because Wijnaldum, who has barely featured for PSG, was snubbed. Memphis scored a penalty in a 4-2 win over Denmark in Amsterdam.

Barcelona value his professionalism, commitment and performance, although it’s obvious Xavi’s plans are to bring in another striker, so Memphis might leave in the summer if he agrees.

He made a big effort to come to Barcelona in terms of wages, so Barcelona should not ask exorbitant prices for him to leave. The Catalans have been asked about him by Italian clubs but more will follow and he can decide at the end of the season. Memphis knows he will need to be fit and playing regularly when the Qatar World Cup comes around so he won’t stay beyond the summer if he’s not going to have a significant role. The idea is to find a deal that helps them both.
