Philippe Coutinho will be out for three months after undergoing surgery on a knee injury on Saturday, Barcelona have confirmed.

Coutinho injured the meniscus in his left knee playing a pass during Tuesday's 1-1 draw against Eibar.

The Brazilian was operated on this weekend and the Catalan club have since confirmed he will be out of action until April.

"Coutinho has been successfully operated on for the injury to his left meniscus," a short statement from Barça said. "He will be out for approximately three months."

In addition to Coutinho, Barca are also without forward Ansu Fati and defender Gerard Pique due to long-term injuries.

The first game Coutinho will miss will be against Huesca on Sunday, while he will also be absent for the Spanish Super Cup this month and the Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain, which will be played in February and March.

Coutinho returned to Barça this season following a loan spell with Bayern Munich after coach Ronald Koeman told him he was an integral part of his plans at Camp Nou.
