Barcelona coach Xavi confirms he will sign short-term contract renewal

Xavi appeared before the press to discuss Barcelona's game against Real Betis this weekend, but he had to address many issues that go beyond his day-to-day role as the Blaugrana coach.

One of them is his contract extension. In this regard, he has confirmed the agreement that is about to become official, which will tie him to the club for one more season, until 2025.

The coach understands that the most important thing is the team and its achievements, both in terms of gameplay and results. That's why he has accepted and is convinced that the best option is a short-term contract.

"I have discussed it with the president, with Deco," he said. "Performance is important to me. If there are no clear objectives at the end of the season, it's not worth having a long contract."

He is clear that his future as the head of the bench depends on his success. Therefore, he wouldn't feel comfortable with "not having performed well and having several years left on the contract. Here, it's all about performance and titles."

Xavi accepts that "the Barcelona coach is under a lot of pressure" and assures that "I will never be a problem for the club." For this reason, "when we see that my continuity is not the right decision, I will step aside."

But all of this is hypothetical and Xavi is solely focused on maintaining the team's upward and unquestionable trajectory since he arrived.

"I am very excited and the project remains very relevant," he said. "My contract extension will be announced in a few days, without a doubt."
