Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman offers Sergiño Dest some advice
The Dutchman says the USMNT right-back needs to improve his concentration
In his pre-Cadiz press conference on Saturday, Ronald Koeman spoke about Sergiño Dest, who had a difficult task against Paris Saint-Germain defending Kylian Mbappe. The Dutch coach had some constructive words for the former Ajax defender and some advice as well: he must improve his concentration during games.
"Maybe that was an influence in his participation in the team, that has not been playing regularly, had some injuries," Koeman responded when asked if a recent thigh problem could have hampered Dest's performance against the French champions.
"But now he is OK, he's physically OK. He's [20] years old but he needs to learn, he needs to be more aggressive, he needs to be more concentrated. He had too many periods in the game where he's not 100 percent focused.
"We spoke to him about this. But he's a young player, that's good, he can learn it, but he needs to learn it.
"With all the positives he can bring to the team, he needs to learn it's a big step to play for Barcelona than to play in Holland. He needs time, he needs advice, but it starts with the player himself."
Dest was signed at the start of the season to compete with Sergi Roberto, currently injured, for the right-back position following the sale of Nelson Semedo.
