Barcelona coach Koeman says "Pique can play" in Saturday's Copa final

The Barça defender's been out for over a month with a knee injury

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman says defender Gerard Pique is fit to play against Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday.

Pique returned from a knee injury last week but was an unused substitute against Real Madrid as he wasn't quite deemed 100 percent.

However, following a further week of training, Koeman says the former Spain international is in contention to play in Seville this weekend as Barça seek their 31st Copa trophy.

"Pique was called up last week but it was a little tight after just three or four sessions. But he's trained without problems this week and can play tomorrow."

The key to the game could lie in the system Koeman chooses, although he says whether he chooses to play a back three or a back four is not the most important issue.

"The plan is always the same, whether with three or four defenders," he added. "We try to dominate the game, find players between the lines, use the width and created chances and, above all, to be switched on without the ball.

"The important thing will be to show the energy we have, we need our players that can make the difference."
