The Dutchman has the chance to win his first trophy as Barça boss on Sunday night

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman says his players don't need motivating as they target their first piece of silverware this season.

Barça ended last season trophy-less but can kick off 2021 with a title if they beat Athletic Club in Sunday's Spanish Supercopa final.

Athletic knocked Real Madrid out to make it to this stage, while Barça needed penalties to beat Real Sociedad in their semi-final.

"It's not the most important trophy but it's a trophy," Koeman said in a press conference on Saturday at La Cartuja in Seville, where the final will be played.

"It's a final, it's a title. To show we're on the right track it's important to win things.

"Winning things always shows you're on the right track. It's good for confidence and to show we're improving, that we're a strong team who fights.

"You don't need to motivate the players for a Supercopa final. We have to relax, be confident and follow the plan we have. There's a lot of enthusiasm and there's no need to apply any pressure to the players."

On Athletic, Koeman added: "The win over Madrid shows that anything is possible. They fought hard, they're a competitive team and they deserved to get through for many reasons."
