Barcelona’s No 1 objective in the winter transfer window is Ferran Torres. Xavi wants a player who can perform immediately and will bet on him before moving for any other options.
Barcelona want him to fit the gap left by Sergio Aguero. He signed for City from Valencia in 2020 for 25m euros and has 16 goals in 43 games in Manchester.
The agreement with the player is total and Barcelona and Man City have got closer in terms of agreement. Sources at Barcelona say he is the player most likely to arrive this winter.
They are trying to find ways of paying Man City the 50m euros they want. City aren’t budging on that but will accept different ways of payment, in terms of timescale and instalments.
The main challenge for Barcelona is to reduce their wage bill to fit him in, in terms of La Liga’s FFP. Coutinho must go or Dembele must sign a new deal.
The latter doesn’t sound right, but it would stretch his salary over the number of seasons he signs on for, so it would free up some space.
