Barcelona believe Ousmane Dembele will agree to deal

The Catalans are officially not his employers any more but a deal could arrive

Optimism. That’s what Barcelona are feeling over Ousmane Dembele, despite the Frenchman’s contract running out on June 30. The club believe that Dembele and his camp will accept the offer they have put on his table.

As we explained in SPORT this weekend, the offer Dembele has from Barcelona is only to the value of 60% of his current deal, a 40% pay cut. His salary was one of the highest at the club and the new deal is tailored to Barcelona’s new financial reality and their salary structure. He would be on the same level as Ansu Fati. The club think that it will still be the best offer that Dembele will receive.

Barcelona think that an agreement will come soon, with pre-season starting on July 4. Xavi wants Dembele at Barcelona and Dembele wants to stay. Even though officially, he’s no longer a player at the club.

However they have not said goodbye to him on social media, like they did with Adama Traore and Luuk de Jong, who also finished their contacts on the same day as the Frenchman.
