The Catalan club have tried to sign the Austrian several times in the past

Barcelona have not forgotten about David Alaba. The Catalan side have wanted to sign the Bayern Munich man for a long time and their chances of signing him have gathered strength in recent weeks. Not for next season, but for the 2021-22 campaign.

According to Sky Sport, Barça have asked the player, a key part of the Bayern side, to hold on for one more year until his contract expires with the German club. Then, Barça will be able to sign the Austrian for free, which would benefit them and the player -- who would be able to demand a bigger contract or signing-on fee.

Alaba, 28, has been a vital player for many years at Bayern, where he celebrates a decade at the club next season. He is now playing as a centre-back, having also played as a left-back and in midfield.

Barça want to move Samuel Umtiti on and give more chances to Ronald Araujo, with Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet remaining as their first-choice centre-backs.

Manchester City defender Eric Garcia is the priority because of his Barça past and what he can add in the future, especially as Pique will turn 34 next season and Alaba would arrive aged 29.
