Barcelona are pressuring Memphis to go to Juventus

The Dutch forward was hoping to stay but the club would like to move him on

Memphis Depay’s future will be decided next week in Barcelona. The club want him to leave, despite his good form in pre-season, because they are betting on other attacking options and would like him to go to Juventus. For now Memphis has no intention of leaving Camp Nou, but the club will push him to the exit because they need to free up space in the squad ahead of the start of the new season.

Negotiations with Juventus started almost two weeks ago, and the Italian club has looked for a formula to make the deal possible because they don't have enough margin in terms of financial fair play to be able to buy him outright.

Barça as well as Juve agree on the idea of a loan with an obligatory option to buy for €20 million, but for that Memphis will have to renew his deal by one year at Barcelona and agree a deal with the Italian side, something which has not advanced in recent days.

For Juventus, the Memphis option is the priority both in supporting the canonic terms, and the good relationship between the two clubs has helped facilitate an agreement. However the Italians will not wait eternally, and aren't sure about the deal given that the player himself is reticent. They have other options on the table like Álvaro Morata and they have warned that if the forward does not accept the move they will rule him out. That is why Barcelona are pressuring him to move, to solve a case which would let them generate some important income at the end of the season and free up a squad space.
