Money is no problem for the English side but they still need to convince the player

There is now a serious chance that Frenkie de Jong has played his last game for Barcelona. The Catalan club and Manchester United are close to a financial agreement following conversations. The fee is around 80 million euros and would be a financial boost for Barça. Now everything depends on what the player decides in the coming days.

Contact between Barça and United began before the end of the season and the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the new coach of the English side. In May, United directors showed interest and asked if he would be available to know if they would pursue it or look for alternative options. The response was affirmative if they could pay a big fee. Barça would only sell for the right price.

This week, United have upped their offensive and got close to Barça's asking price, opening the door to a deal. De Jong is a priority for Ten Hag and they will make a huge effort in terms of fee and salary. United feel there will be no problem finalising an agreement with Barça.

United's big challenge is convincing the player. Ten Hag has been speaking with De Jong and his camp and is pushing a lot. Until now, De Jong has maintained that his desire is to stay at Camp Nou, despite being offered more money and the chance to lead the project at Old Trafford. But the fact they are not in the Champions League makes him doubt the move.

United want to know either way by the middle of June. Lazio's Milinkovic-Savic is another option but they are starting to feel optimistic about De Jong.
