Eric Garcia was 16 when he left Barcelona in 2017 and now, aged 19, he is a Spain international and is about to return to the Catalan club from Manchester City, although it's most likely to happen next summer and not in January.
His contract with City ends in 2021 and the player has told the English side he will not extend his stay, despite their attempts to keep hold of him. Barça made their move in the summer but were unable to meet City's price tag.
Barça offered 10 million euros upfront with eight million more in add-ons but City didn't accept. There was no agreement and the deal was put on hold.
Everything suggests he will now arrive for free at the end of the 20-21 season. Various factors encourage Barça to wait a few months: first of all, the club's delicate financial situation, which doesn't allow for big signings if there is no agreement on wage deferrals with the first-team squad.
The good relationship between Barça sporting director Ramon Planes and Garcia's agent Ivan de la Peña have allowed the Catalan club to agree the terms for the Catalan defender to come back for the 21-22 campaign.
