Barcelona 3-3 Manchester City: All square in entertaining match for Unzue

Mahrez's late penalty earned a draw for City from a match not short of drama

Barcelona and Manchester City shared six goals at Camp Nou in a match which raised money for research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which former Barca goalkeeper and coach Juan Carlos Unzue was diagnosed with in 2020.

Riyad Mahrez scored from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time to rescue a draw for City after Memphis Depay had appeared to win it for Barcelona 10 minutes from time.

City had earlier taken the lead through Julian Alvarez only to fall behind to goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Frenkie de Jong.

Cole Palmer levelled for City but substitute Memphis’ clinical finish after good work from Sergi Roberto restored the home side’s lead at Camp Nou.

However, a comical late penalty meant the match ended all square.

Substitute Erling Haaland, whose arrival was cheered by the home supporters, tripped in the box and the referee pointed to the spot amid bewilderment from players on both sides.

Mahrez, a dead ball specialist, made no mistake as an entertaining match ended with one final twist.
