Arturo Vidal opened the scoring in the second half and Djene Dakonam scored an own goal late on after good work from Lionel Messi.

Ernesto Valverde stuck with eight of the starters that lost 4-0 at Anfield on their way out of the Champions League, with the injured Luis Suarez among the three players to drop out.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Clement Lenglet were also rested, with Malcom, Jasper Cillessen and Samuel Umtiti coming into the side.

A half-full Camp Nou whistled the team on to the pitch and there were repeated whistles for Philippe Coutinho when he got on the ball. Sergio Busquets was also jeered.

Getafe looked to play off the home support's frustration and Jorge Molina wasted a good chance to open the scoring.

Lionel Messi was quiet but was involved in the opening goal. His free kick was headed goal wards by Gerard Pique, but David Soria made a fine save. Arturo Vidal scored the rebound.

There was a first team debut for Abel Ruiz after the break and he almost scored, denied by Soria after a good pass from Carles Alena.

Messi had chances, too, blazing one over, while Getafe threatened at the end, hitting the bar.

La Liga champions Barça eventually sealed the win in the 89th minute when Messi linked with Sergi Roberto and Dakonam turned the ball into his own net.
