Barcelona 0-1 Real Betis: This is what it is

Juanmi's goal sealed the three points for the visitors as Xavi tasted defeat

Barcelona tasted defeat under new coach Xavi Hernandez for the first time on Saturday as Juanmi's counter-attack goal earned Real Betis a 1-0 win at Camp Nou.

Juanmi had already had a goal ruled out for offside when he struck in the 79th minute as Betis temporarily moved third in LaLiga, opening up a seven-point lead on Barca.

Barca had started well, with Philippe Coutinho hitting the post early on, but Betis grew into the game and had the better of the first half which saw Gavi taken off with a concussion.

Xavi's side improved after the break, though, with the introduction of Ousmane Dembele and Frenkie de Jong.

Dembele in particular gave the home support a lift and came close with a couple of long rangers, although he failed to find the target.

Clement Lenglet had a header saved from a corner but the winner would come at the other end as Sergio Canales led a break.

The ball eventually found Juanmi, who scored a hat-trick last week against Levante, and he made no mistake from six yards.

Luuk de Jong and Gerard Pique came on in search of an equaliser but it was not forthcoming as Barca were beaten ahead of Wednesday's Champions League game against Bayern Munich.
