The Barcelona coach spoke after the goalless draw against Rayo

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez said he understood the disappointment after starting the season with a goalless draw against Rayo Vallecano at Camp Nou on Saturday.

Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha were among the new signings in the Barça side after a busy summer but Xavi's team could not break down Rayo.

"I understand the disappointment, expectations are really high and we will try to keep it that way," Xavi told DAZN. "We will have to analyse the game properly, improve and keep believing in the model.

"Rayo defended really well. It was harder for us to create [chances] than normal. It's a shame because we wanted to show the fans that we're on a good path. It's disappointing, but we ask for patience."

Xavi said hee felt the players were a little tense with over 81.000 fans at Camp Nou expecting to see Barça kick off the season in style.

"Due to the expectations that have been generated, I think the team was a little tense," he added. "I tried to tell them that now the pressure is all on me, all on the coach. But Rayo were tactically very good. It's a shame not to get the goal. We have to keep growing."
