Bad news for Barcelona and for Thomas Vermaelen. The defender was taken off injured in the 73rd minute of Belgium's UEFA Nations League game against Switzerland.
Barça are already missing Samuel Umtiti through injury but could find themselves down to just two fit centre-backs after the international break.
After battling with an opposition player for the ball, obliging him to force the pass, Vermaelen pulled up and asked to be taken off.
He was replaced by Boyata and headed straight to the dressing room with Belgium's medical staff.
Nothing has been confirmed yet but the worst case scenario could see him ruled out for up to three months, which would leave Barça in trouble at the back.
Umtiti could also be out for a long time if surgery is needed on his knee issue, which would leave Barça with just Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet.
The club have already decided to intensify their efforts to sign Ajax's De Ligt. Vermaelen's injury will only accelerate that pain.
