Barça's problems in attack & the B teamer who could play vs. Benfica

Nils is the only option from the B team, while Yusuf Demir could also come into the thinking

Xavi Hernandez has serious problems putting together a front three for Tuesday's key Champions League match against Benfica.

For his first game in charge against Espanyol on Saturday, Xavi turned to the B team, starting with 17-year-old Ilias and bringing on 19-year-old Abde to play on the right wing.

But neither of them are available against Benfica. Ilias is serving a ban after getting sent off in the UEFA Youth League, while Abde has not spent more than two years with the club so, as he's not registered in Europe, cannot feature as an in-house youngster.

Jutglà, a winger who has also trained with the first team this season, is in the same boat as Abde and cannot be called up, either.

Barça registered Nico, Gavi, Balde and goalkeepers Peña and Tenas on their B list this season for the Champions League but UEFA say clubs can registers more players up to 24 hours before a game.

However, there are certain stipulations: "That the player(s) was born on or after January. 1 2000 and has been eligible to play for the club during an uninterrupted period of two years."

Nils Mortimer, the candidate

The problem is Xavi needs wingers and the options in the B team are reduced. On Sunday, another option, Peque, got re-injured, leaving Nils Mortimer as the sole option.

Nils featured under Ronald Koeman in preseason but the 20-year-old winger from Malaga has lost his place in the B team in recent weeks. He hasn't featured since Oct. 29.

In attack, Xavi has Memphis Depay and Gavi as two of his three -- both started on Sunday -- and Yusuf Demir as another option. Coutinho and Luuk de Jong are also available.
