The nominees have been cut from 100 to 60 with the winner announced later this year

The list of nominees for the Golden Boy prize has been reduced from 100 to 60 but Barcelona star Pedri remains the favourite to succeed Erling Haaland, the 2020 winner.

Along with midfielder Pedri, Barca teammates Eric García, Yusuf Demir and Ilaix Moriba also remain in the running for the award.

Pedri's incredible year with Barça, which saw him become a regular in Ronald Koeman's side, excel at Euro 2020 with Spain and win an Olympic Gold medal makes him the favourite.

His main rivals are Mason Greenwood (Manchester Utd), Eduardo Camavinga (Rennes) and Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), while Jude Bellingham (Dortmund) and Kaio Jorge (Juventus) have also impressed this year.

If Pedri does win, he will become the third Spanish player to win it after Cesc Fabregas and Isco Alarco, who won the Golden Boy in 2006 and 2012 respectively.

Other players still on the shortlist from Spain include Bryan Gil (Tottenham), Ander Barrenetxea (Real Sociedad), Yeremi Pino (Villarreal) and Germán Valera (Atlético Madrid), with the list to be cut to 40 in September and then the finalists announced in October.
