Barça's negotiations to renew Gavi and Araujo close to breaking down

The club have been unable to reach an agreement with either player yet

Gavi and Ronald Araujo are out of contract in 2023. Both have big offers and agents that demand salaries that Barcelona cannot allow themselves to pay.

From the club's offices, people admit that the postures remain distant and that negotiations are close to ending, but the message remains inflexible: "If they want to stay, they will stay, but on Barça's conditions."

Both Gavi and Araujo have emerged as important players for Barça this season. Gavi, 17, has been one of the revelations of the campaign and Araujo, 23, offers a different profile at centre-back.

However, as Barça rebuild the squad, Joan Laporta has been clear they will not spend what they cannot afford and they will not break internal limits on salaries.

Asked about the signing of Erling Haaland, for example, on Sunday, he said: "Even if our financial situation is the best it could possibly be, there are some deals that we would still not do for the sake of the club. We won't do any deals that place the club's [future] at risk."
