The central defender's agent knows his client's price tag has risen so is now demanding even more money

Matthijs de Ligt is still a top priority signing for FC Barcelona but the deal to bring the Dutch youngster to the Camp Nou has stalled in recent weeks. The two sides had almost agreed terms but his impressive displays in the Champions League has seen the goalposts moved once again.

The Ajax captain's agent, Mino Raiola, knows that his client's performances have seen his price tag - and value - rise with it. This means they aren't in a rush to agree terms with Barça and will instead wait to see what other offers come their way.

It was in the beginning of April when Barça thought they'd got the transfer over the line. Negotiations were at an advanced stage and there was even hope it could be made official should Ajax lose to Juventus in the quarter finals. However Ajax's progress put transfer talks on the back-burner and now Raiola knows his client can demand even better terms.

De Ligt and Barça had spoken about the project at the club, what the plans were for the future and the player seemed excited by them. Barça were the best option for him to continue his development and he couldn't wait to pull on their famous shirt.

Now, alongside his agent, he's ready to listen to other offers. Bayern, Juventus and PSG are all desperate for de Ligt to lead their sides for the next 10 years. The defender won't sign a pre-contract agreement with anyone until Ajax have been eliminated from the Champions League.

Barça's position hasn't changed. They are willing to fight until the end to secure his signature. The hope is that despite economic advantages being available elsewhere, de Ligt will choose Barça for sporting reasons. Offering him a better contract is another option on the table. For now, it's a waiting game.

Barça want to bring in de Ligt but not for any price. If a rival offers a huge contract, way over the market value, then the club will find it difficult to win the battle. Every option remains open but it's starting to become a lot more complicated.
