Barça's Luis Suarez would like to play in Copa Libertadores for Nacional

The striker has no European regrets but would like to do more back in South America one day

Luis Suarez is loving living in Barcelona and playing for the football club. The Uruguayan forward, who was visiting children in the city’s hospitals on Tuesday, would not change the decision he took to leave his native Uruguay for anything, but he admitted he would have liked to have played in the Copa Libertadores for Nacional, who he played for before moving to Europe a decade ago.

Speaking to the program "Tuya y Mía" on El Espectador in Uruguay, Suarez assured that while he was at other teams in Europe he “dreamed of things, but everything went so quickly until I arrived at the team I’d dreamed of being at [Barcelona].”

The Barcelona forward was always enamoured with Barcelona, a city he always found attractive. He even travelled to watch the club before his move from Liverpool. “When Sofia [his partner] came to live here I began to grow found of the city. We had free days in Holland and we would spend them here. We completed a dream by coming here,” the player said.

Remember that Suarez spent a season with Groningen (2006-07), four with Ajax (2007-08 until 2010-11) three more with Liverpool (2011-12 until 2013-14) before moving to Barça, where he is now in his third season.

Suarez doesn’t forget his origins with Nacional, though, and added: “I still have a little sadness that I didn’t enjoy more [football] with Nacional. To play in the Copa Libertadores is something which I’d like to have done. But, well, there’s still time for all that.”

With regards to his national team, who are trying to qualify for the World Cup in Russia in 2018, the Blaugrana No.9 said: “We’re lacking that final push, but we know we’re on the right path. We know that we have to continue working as we are, like we have been doing.”
