The left-back spoke to the press after a difficult week at Can Barça

Jordi Alba spoke in the mixed zone after Barcelona's Copa del Rey defeat to Athletic Club on Thursday. The left-back appeared keen to talk after a difficult week at the club in which star player Lionel Messi and sporting director Lionel Messi clashed.

Messi took to Instagram to call Abidal out after he had suggested the players were at fault for Ernesto Valverde's dismissal.

"Abidal was a player, he is loved by the fans and that's why he should know what it's like inside the dressing room and how players feel," Alba told reporters.

"The players and coaching staff are the ones showing their faces. This club gets enough shit thrown at it from the outside so we shouldn't be throwing shit at ourselves as well."

On the game, a narrow 1-0 defeat which saw Barça eliminated in the quarterfinals, Alba added that he was happy with how the team played at San Mames.

"We showed that we are a team and that's what we need to keep on doing," he said. "I think we put in a great performance, one of the best of the season. It's a real shame we conceded the goal so late but that's what football is like. I'm very proud of the team."
