Barça's €20 million spend on coaching changes as Setien demands €4m

The club's financial position has been weakened further by the upheaval on the bench

Barcelona are not going through their best moment on the pitch or financially. The club's lack of fund have impeded them from signing Eric Garcia or Memphis Depay and a big part of the problem is an excessive amount of money spent recently on coaches, firing them and their backroom staff. According to SER Catalunya, Barça have spent more than 20 million euros on the last three coaching changes involving Ernesto Valverde, Quique Setien and Ronald Koeman.

Valverde was sacked last January one year before his contract ended and received a pay off of 11 million euros. In addition, Barça also had to pay five million euros direct to the Dutch Football Federation when they recruited Koeman as Setien's replacement last summer.

Setien, who came in the middle of Valverde and Koeman, only lasted eight months in the job but days after being sacked filed a lawsuit against Barça for a failure to fulfill the contract in terms of his payoff, which he says is not the amount that was previously agreed with the club.

That claim is set to go to court with Setien claiming four million euros.

According to the same report, that 20 million euros doesn't include any payments and payoffs made to the respective backroom staff, including Koeman's.
