The centre back won't play a part in Barça's match against Napoli, or any of the competition in Lisbon should they advance

Jorge Cuenca stood a genuine chance of playing against Napoli in the Champions League but he's unfortunately been ruled out for the season. The centre back suffered an abductor injury and won't feature throughout the rest of the summer, according to SPORT's sources. The club believes even if Cuenca should recover in time for Lisbon, it would be better for him to rest and enjoy a break before preseason starts.

It'll be a tough pill to swallow for Cuenca as he was set to play if Lenglet isn't available. With fourth-choice centre back Ronald Araujo injured, it would have seen Cuenca handed a massive opportunity to impress. Barça's backup option now lies with Oscar Mingueza.

It has been a season to forget for Cuenca. He was called up for Spain's U21 team but needed an operation to fix a broken metatarsal. This caused him to miss three months of action but Garcia Pimienta immediately restored him to the XI once he'd recovered.

After suffering defeat in Barça B's play-off bid, Cuenca will need to make a major decision on his future. If he doesn't convince Quique Setien in the summer, he'll need to leave on loan or permanently. The young centre back is under contract until 2021 but there's an option to extend that by a further two years.

AC Milan are interested in Cuenca's services.
