Barça willing to let Umtiti leave on a free transfer

| sport

A decision on his future will be made in the coming days

Samuel Umtiti will not remain a Barcelona player beyond the end of this month. The club is currently in discussions with the French centre back to finalise the details of his departure. Barça officials are hoping that Umtiti will accept, for once and for all, one of the various offers that are currently on the table, and are even willing to let him go on a free transfer in order to get him off the wage bill.

Umtiti is only willing to leave the club on loan, and the club is starting to lose patience with him. The player may end up in France or Italy, with clubs like Nice, Monaco and Roma showing an interest in the player. However, the French centre back is reluctant to join a club that is not in the Champions League, and no such club has shown an interest to date.

Barça's sporting directors have already urged him to sign for one of these clubs, and they are hopeful that Umtiti will allow his arm to be twisted in the coming days. If not, Barça could end up firing him.

He has already turned down the chance to sign for a Turkish club, despite a very tempting economic package. With only a few days left of the window, we should have news of Umtiti's future sooner rather than later.
