The club hope the sale of assets like BLM and television rights will turn things around

After the board meeting on Tuesday, Barcelona confirmed the news advanced by SPORT on Sunday. The board of directors have called an extraordinary assembly for June 16 to vote on several financial operations that are on the table.

The vote will be electronic and if passed would give the club the oxygen they need to turn to the transfer market this summer in the form of a financial boost of €740 million.

The board will ask members to authorise two things: 1) The sale of up to 49.9% of Barça Licensing and Merchandising and 2) The sale of up to 25 percent of LaLiga television rights to one or more companies.

Barça have been working on the first option for a while and hope to bring in €200m for the sale of a stake in BLM. However, it is unlikely to be closed before June 30, so Barça need to activate another operation to be able to close the current financial year without losses and increase their spending limit.

It's for that reason that Joan Laporta's board will also ask for permission from members to cede to one of more investors a stake in the club's television rights. Everything is on track for Barça to finally join LaLiga's CVC deal. A €270m loan would be given to the club in exchange for CVC taking 8.2% of the club's LaLiga television rights for the next 40 years. It would not count as debt.

Meanwhile, the board are also negotiating with Goldman Sachs and CVC for another €270m that would count as revenue and as debt.

40 MILLION

The sale of 49% of Barça Studios, already approved by members, can also be added to those two financial operations. All of these deals would allow Barça to ease their money problems and be able to sign this summer.

In fact, just with the CVC deal alone and joining LaLiga Impulso, Barça would have €40m to invest in the squad this summer despite their current negative salary limit, as is already the case with the other clubs in Spanish football.
