The young, French centre back would join Ajax on loan in order to reduce the potential cost of the De Ligt transfer

FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu will be in Amsterdam alongside Albert Soler representing the club at the ECA (European Club Association) meeting. During this trip it's expected that moves will be made in order to advance talks over a deal for Matthijs de Ligt. Following the capture of the centre back's teammate Frenkie de Jong, the highest priority for Barça is securing the services of the Ajax captain..

Todibo could be a wildcard option

Ajax are well aware of Barça's interest in the 19-year-old De Ligt. As such, the conversations have been direct and to the point after the two sides agreed to work together during the De Jong transfer. Barça have decided to offer another young centre back in exchange - on a temporary basis - in the form of Jean Clair Todibo, who is of interest to Ajax.

FC Barcelona believe Todibo's progress could be increased by playing at a club as big as Ajax, one with a rich history of giving young players a chance. Ajax know all about the Frenchman and would welcome his inclusion in any deal. It's possible that the loan could extend beyond a single season if it reduced the cost of de Ligt's transfer.

Bartomeu will personally speak with Marc Overmars as he looks to secure a deal before other clubs present their offers to Ajax. Juventus are thought to be the main rivals for the defender's signature.

Ultimately the decision will belong to De Ligt. Much like with his teammate de Jong, it'll be a choice of choosing the most money or joining a winning project. The player's admiration for Barça is no secret and being able to continue his development alongside his best friend, de Jong, is another factor in favour of a Camp Nou switch. However the last word will come from the 19-year-old.
