Barcelona are contemplating the possiblity of Thomas Vermaelen becoming the fourth central defender in the squad next season after his loan with Roma came to an end.
The final decision will be taken by the new coach, Ernesto Valverde, along with those in charge of making decisions on the squad during pre-season when pre-season beging on July 12.
Last season was once again an injury-plagued one for Vermaelen. He only played 609 minutes for the Italian side spread across just 12 official matches.
The Belgian defender has a contract with Barça until 2019 and while he's often showed his quality, he's been hampered by injry problems since his time with Premier League side Arsenal.
Torino, Watford and Southampton have all been linked with the centre-back, but the reality is it will be difficult to find a take given his lack of competitive football during the last three seasons.
