Barça still have signing of Ajax's Onana under control

The goalkeeper was at La Masia before joining the Dutch club

Barcelona want to be prepared for any situation in the goalkeeping position and the ideal candidate to strengthen is Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana.

The former Barça stopper is liked for a number of reasons: his experience in Europe, his youthfulness, his ability on the ball.

Barça have his signing under control and he's going to wait for Barça in the next transfer window, despite the fact there are various clubs keen on him.

The Catalan club sounded him out last year but the struggle to move Cillessen on made it impossible at the time. Onana had offers but opted to stay in Amsterdam with the guarantee he could leave in 2020 if he wanted.

That moment has arrived. Barça have sounded him out again but will not make any movement until Neto has a buyer. There will be no need to sign if the Brazilian stays.

For now, Ajax are standing firm and have said they want 40 million euros for the Cameroon international -- a high amount for someone who would initially be Ter Stegen's No.2.

Everyone knows the final price would not be that high, though. The coronavirus crisis is set to drive prices down and Onana only has a contact until 2022.

Onana's people have been contacted by a lot of clubs. Paris Saint-Germain are the most interested.

Barça have also thought about giving a chance to B team stopper Iñaki Peña, but the club believe he would be better served on loan in the second division for a season.
