Barca return for Inter's Lautaro Martinez

If they can't sign Erling Haaland they will turn to the Argentine striker

Lautaro Martinez was, before the pandemic, Barcelona’s big target. The Inter Milan forward was close to coming to the Catalan giants after intense negotiations. The first part of the plan, selling Luis Suarez, was realised, but Barca did not get Lautaro.

RAC1 reported, and SPORT have confirmed, that Barca have reactivated their interest in Lautaro, a player backed by Ramon Planes, whom Ronald Koeman and his staff like a lot.

He would be the alternative if Barcelona cannot sign Erling Haaland, the in demand Dortmund striker.

Barca are speaking regularly with Lautaro again. This time the reaction of the Argentine and his people has not been as receptive as it was the first time. They think Barcelona didn’t throw everything they had at the deal last time and it caused them problems in Italy. But it’s nothing that can’t be resolved, because Lautaro believes his future is at Camp Nou.

Barca’s new board know the chances of signing Lautaro are much higher if Leo Messi stays at Barcelona. Optimism is moderate from the Catalans, with Inter’s situation playing into their favour too.

Suning, who own Inter, are looking for investors to sell the club. Barca can’t pay a huge amount but it’s not an impossible deal. If they don’t get Haaland, they may return to Lautaro.
