Barça pressing for Ferran Torres after Champions League exit

The Manchester City forward remains the top target for January

As the January transfer window approaches, Barcelona are intensifying contact with Manchester City for forward Ferran Torres.

Director of football Mateu Alemany was in Manchester recently to meet with City to try and thrash out a deal for the Spain international.

Barça need to be able to pay any potential fee in installments, but it does not benefit City to make things easy for the Catalans.

Coach Xavi Hernandez is insisting on the signing of the former Valencia winger because he believes he will help solve the team's weaknesses in attack.

Barça's Champions League has accelerated contact between the two clubs for Torres to move in January, but the financial aspect of the deal remains a problem.

Barça must look to move on other players, too, such as Coutinho or Umtiti, to free up room on the wage bill.
