Barça pres. Laporta on Messi contract: Fair play issue needs sorting

Lionel Messi is officially a free agent after his Barça deal expired on Wednesday

Even though Lionel Messi's contract has expired and he's a free agent, Joan Laporta has no doubt that the Argentina star will remain at Camp Nou.

He made it clear on Wednesday when asked by the media outside the Camp Nou offices and he was equally as adamant on the issue in an interview on Onda Cero later in the day.

"We want Messi to stay and Leo wants to stay, everything is on track," he said. "We still have the (financial) fair play (issue) to sort out… we’re in the process of finding the best solution for both parties.

"I would like to be able to say that Messi is staying (confirmed), but I still can't do that yet."

Barça are calm about Messi's future, with negotiations progressing well if slowly to ensure he remains at the club next season.
