Barça players 'clamour' for Dembele to sign new Camp Nou contract

The Frenchman's terms are up in the summer and there's still uncertainty around his future

There's a clamour to convince Ousmane Dembele to renew his Barcelona contract. Since January closed without a resolution to his situation, with his current terms expiring in June, there have been some twists that not many expected.

Firstly, it seemed he would not play much, if at all, again this season. Xavi Hernandez decided otherwise, though, and he is getting the best out of the French winger.

Dembele is giving his all despite the risk of getting injured when he doesn't have anything signed beyond the summer. He has two goals and nine assists under Xavi -- a goal contribution every 104 minutes, better than with any other coach.

The arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, his former Borussia Dortmund teammate, has also been a positive for him.

"They're personal decisions. He has a contract until the end of the season. Now, as a team, we want him to stay with us. He has a lot of quality and we want to take advantage of that. It will be his decision. I don't get involved. But he's a player that makes the difference and we want him to stay," goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen told SPORT before Napoli-Barça.

This Wednesday, Jordi Alba said: "I think Barça should renew Dembele. In his position, he's one of the best in the world by a distance. I hope he stays."

Pedri added that "I have been most surprised by Dembele and Busquets. It's crazy how good Busquets is."

Meanwhile, Nico Gonalzez said: "It's good news that Dembele can help us. He's an important player, you saw that in the Santiago Bernabeu in the Clasico."

And Ferran Torres said the quickest player in LaLiga is Dembele.

If it was up to his teammates, Dembele, who celebrated effusively with them after the Madrid win, would already have signed a new contract. Now it's up to him and the club.
