Things are clearing up in defence for Barcelona: Samuel Umtiti is back in training, for the first time since September, and his return to action is nearing.

The France defender's evolution is positive for the club and has provoked a change of opinion on the need to sign in January. As things look, Umtiti will not need surgery and Barça will not go to the market.

LENGLET

Clement Lenglet's fine performances in Umtiti's absence have helped. Coach Ernesto Valverde's not been able to count on Umtiti or Thomas Vermaelen (out until after the November international break) during a tough run of game. However, Barça have been at their best, beating Sevilla, Inter and Real Madrid.

Barça B defender Chumi's been helping out, sitting on the bench during the Inter and Madrid games and starting in the Copa del Rey this week.

Umtiti's fitness was an unknown until a few days ago. There were fears he'd need surgery on a knee problem but that is looking less likely now. He will not be forced back into the team, though, and it's unlikely he will play before the international break.

DE LIGT

Even though there's no urgent need for a centre-back, Barça have not lost sight of 'Option De Ligt.' The young Ajax defender (19 years old) has caught Europe's attention and is Barça first choice when they do look to strengthen at the back -- a signing for the present and the future.
