Barça monitoring Adidas-Madrid deal as Nike revision approaches

| sport

The club want to see how much money Madrid negotiate with the German brand

Barcelona's kit manufacturer has been Nike since 1998. When Josep Maria Bartomeu, the club's former president, renegotiated the contract with the American company, he did so until 2018 for a record amount of money which was worth more than Manchester United's deal with Adidas. In concrete, the 10-year arrangement was worth 105 million euros which, with add ons, could reach 155 million.

However, the deal also includes a review of the conditions after five years, in 2023, a date which is getting closer. Both the club and the company intend to update the terms. In that sense, Barça are watching closely to see what happens with Real Madrid and Adidas, the German company that have manufactured Madrid's kits also since 1998.

Barça's marketing department want to know what sort of money Madrid will make on the deal to be able to work out their options with Nike. It's nothing that does not happen in the business world between companies (in this case football clubs) in the same sector that need resources to continue operating. They are communicating vessels that end up feeding each other on a regular basis.
